Wang wins Rolex Girls in wire-to-wire fashion

Elizabeth Wang completed a wire-to-wire victory at the Rolex Girls Junior Championship June 13 at The Country Club of Rochester (N.Y.).

Wang, 14, shot 3-over 283 in the 72-hole event to win by one over Amy Lee of Brea, Calif.

At the turn, Wang had a four-shot lead, but bogeyed Nos. 11, 13 and 14. Lee had bogeyed 13 before making back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16 on the 6,246-yard layout to get within one of the lead.

Lee had to birdie the 72nd hole to force a playoff with Wang, as the San Marino, Calif., native bogeyed her final hole, but it wasn’t meant to be.

It’s her second AJGA victory this season (third of her career). Wang won the AJGA Junior at River Ridge in Aprl. It is also her third top-10 in four tournaments this season.
Hannah O’Sullivan, a class-of-2016 graduate, finished in third at 5-over 285.
