Jay Choi, Safe In Japan After Earthquake

Jay Choi contacted his coach, George Pinnell, to say that he is safe and away from the devastating earthquake and tsunami that has hit Japan. Jay said early today that cell phone communication’s are “spotty” and that communication in general is difficult because of the downed cell sites and damage to infrastructure throughout the hardest hit area’s that have affected all of Japan.

Jay is located in a mountainous area of Japan in a city named Shiga Ken in Kansai. He said some locals have felt the quake and the aftershocks but that no damage has been noticed. Kansai is about 500 miles southeast of the major quake damage.

Jay will depart for Jakarta, Indonesia around the 20th of March to compete in the Indonesian PGA Championship on the One Asia PGA Tour. He will return to Japan to compete on the Japan PGA Tour for the remainder of 2011.
