Jay Choi Near Lead In Japan

Jay Choi is 2 shot’s behind the leader’s after he scored a first round even par (71) in the Japan Golf Tour Championship Citibank Cup Shishido Hills 2011. Jay’s even par put him in a tie for 4th place. Jay has missed several cut’s in his second year on the JGTO Tour. Jay blame’s the missed cuts on a swing issue that related to swing path and face issues at impact.

After missing last week’s cut, Jay immediately contacted his swing coach George Pinnell to discuss what is causing him to miss his shots right of target. Pinnell has worked with Jay for nearly 13 year’s so he has a great understanding of what makes his swing work. Jay agreed with the diagnosis and said he would work on the swing “adjustment” for the following week’s tournament at Shishido Hills.

Jay’s round consisted of 3 birdies and 3 bogies with 27 putts. Rain during the first round is making playing conditions difficult on the Shishido Hills course. Masanori Kobayashi and Hirohito Koizumi share the lead at -2 (69). Tyo Ishikawa, the talented young player struggled with a +12 (84) in the first round.

Live scoring is available at www.jgto.org. Jay’s second round tee time is 6:42 PM, Pacific Coast Time.
