Kat Muzi T8 Toyota Tour Cup Series @ Morongo/Oak

February 10, 2014 Katherine “The Kat” Muzi , rebounded with a solid round of 73 after her opening round 80 at the Toyota Tour Cup Series @ Morongo/Oak.  Katherine, 13, was disappointed with her opening round that consisted of two double bogies, six bogies and two birdies.  Determined and rested, Katherine started the second round on the fourth hole in the shotgun start.  Pars on four thru eight got her off to a good start before she birdied on her fifth hole (#9).  Another par and birdie on ten and eleven got her to -2, thru eight holes, before a bogey on twelve slowed her momentum a little.  Undeterred, she promptly made par on thirteen, fourteen, fifteen and sixteen before making a bogey on seventeen and a par on eighteen (her 15th).  Bogey’s on one and two (her 16th/17th) again slowed her before she made a good birdie on her final hole, the par three, third hole.  Katherine finished in a tie for 8th place and continued her goal of improving her game and becoming more consistent in her play.

In the Boys Toyota Tour Cup, Michael Alvarez finished in a tie for 28th place with scores of 78-74 (152).  Michael from Henderson, NV, signed a letter of intent to play with California State University, Fullerton, in the fall.

At the Casta Del Sol Spring Classic #1, Sherilyn Villanueva, Stanton, CA, shot 48 and finished in 8th place.

Ryan Toh, 8, shot a career round at the Garb JDL Spring @ Manhattan Beach #1, with a 39 (+12).  A happy Ryan, told his coach George Pinnell, that his good play was a result of our working on his short game skills for the past two weeks.

At the Toyota Tour Cup Salt Creek Qualifier @ Links at Summerly, Matthew Huo, shot a 78 and grabbed the last spot in the qualifier.  Matthew shot a solid one over par 37 on the front but, backed up a little with a double on ten and bogies on fifteen, seventeen and eighteen.  Matthew was not happy with his poor showing on the finishing holes.  A little fatigue might have been a contributing factor according to his coach, George Pinnell.  Aaron Chang shot 89 and missed the cut.  In the Girls Qualifier, Felicia Chang shot 87 and missed the cut.

Matthew Huo shot a solid 75 at the Toyota Tour Cup Empire Lakes Qualifier @ Los Serranos and qualified with a tie for 2nd place.  Matthew’s round consisted of a birdie and two bogies on his front side for a 37.  On his backside, he scored a birdie and three bogies for a 38.  Aaron Chang shot his best score in a qualifier with a 78.  Aaron missed the cut by two shots.  In the Girls Qualifier, Felicia Chang shot 90 and missed qualifiying.

At Scholl Canyon Spring Classic, Yi Yi (Double Yi) shot a 41 to finish in a tie for 13th place in the Boys 9-11 while Sebastian Vallejo shot 64 (+4) and finished in a tie for 3rd place in the Boys 12-13 age group.  In the Girls 12-14, Mylan Hirata shot 79 (43 putts) to finish in 10th place.  Mylan was not happy with her putting and told her coach she wanted to spend more time on her putting skill set.  Sherilyn Villanueva, shot a solid 34 to finish in a tie for 5th place while Sneha Yadav, shot 37 and finished in 10th place in the Girls 9-11 age group.
