Park’s Run At The Polo Ends In Second Round

Kristen Park’s run at the 2009 Polo Invitational ended today on the 19th hole of match play with A.J. Newell of Tampa, Fl. Play in the second round was suspended at 5 p.m. on Wednesday because of rain delays and darkness. Kristen and A.J. were all even at the end of the 12 hole. Play resumed at 8:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day to complete the 2nd round of match play.

On the 13th, A.J. birdied to go 1 up
On 14 both players made par
On 15 Kristen bogie, A.J. 2 up
On 16 both players made par, A.J. Dormie
On 17 Kristen birdied, A.J. 1 up
On 18 Kristen birdied, match even, goes to extra holes
On 19 A.J. par, Kristen bogie, A.J. wins, 19 holes.

Kristen showed character and perseverance when she came back on 17 and 18 to even the match after being dormie on 17. Although Kristen was disappointed with the loss, she learned something more about herself on the last two holes of regulation play by going birdie, birdie to even the match and go to extra holes. A.J. shot -4 while Kristen shot -3.
