Park Keeps Pressure On In Move To Round Of 16 At Women’s Amateur

Kristen Park, senior-to-be- at Sunny Hill’s High School in California, road the momentum she gathered in her first match win on Wednesday into today’s win over touted Cydney Clanton, a senior-to-be at Auburn University and 2010 Curtis Cup player. Kristen won 6 holes to Cydney’s 4 holes in the highly anticipated “match” of the day, pitting the older, more experienced collegiate player against a highly touted 4 time Rolex All-American junior. Kristen applied pressure immediately as she had Cydney down 2 after 2. Kristen had a telephone conversation with her coach, George Pinnell, on Wednesday evening and Pinnell told Kristen to get to her “early and often.” Kristen, apparently took her coach’s advice in having the upper hand throughout the match.

Kristen will play Marina Alex from Wayne, N.J. in the round of 16 today. The winner of that match will advance into Friday’s match. Alex will be a junior at Vanderbilt University and is currently ranked #5 in collegiate women’s golf.
