Stephanie Lau Tie’s For 5th Place At Trader Joe’s

Stephanie Lau did not have her best day with her putter as she shot a final round 74 that included a hole-in-one on the par 3 12th hole. Stephanie had round’s of 70-78-74 to finish in a tie for 5th place in the Trader Joe’s Junior Championship Hosted By Pat Hurst. The event was a 54 hole tournament played on the Hill Course at Castlewood Country Club, Pleasanton, CA, July 18-21, 2011.

Stephanie’s front nine consisted of 4 bogies and one birdie for a 3 over par 38 on the par 70 course. Her back nine started with par’s on 10 and 11 and then lightning struck as she made a hole-in-one on 12, followed by 2 par’s on 13 and 14. She finished the round with 3 bogies on 15-16 and 17 before making a par on 18 for a back nine score of 36.

The talented 15 year old is learning to be more patient on the course and to take what the course will give her. In the second round she told her coach, George Pinnell, “I started to think about my score and that is what caused me to make mistake’s.” The young player is learning the hard way, that one cannot be too aggressive when playing the game of golf. It is better to play your game and play the course the way the designer designed it to be played. If a player does that, the birdies will come without trying to force them. There will be plenty of birdies in her game in the future.
