Jay Choi Surge’s To Lead With 2 Eagle’s On Japan PGA Tour Event

Jay Choi, took advantage of 2 eagle’s in the Mynavi ABC 2011 Championship being played At ABC Golf Club, Hyogo, Japan. Jay started the first round on the 10th hole where he made a birdie on 11, bogied 12, birdied the par 5, 15th, bogied 17 and eagled the par 5, 18th for 34. Jay made the turn and birdied 2, 4, 6 and eagled the par 4, 7th. He bogied 8 and made a 1 putt par on the 9th hole (his 18th) for 32 and a 66 for the first round.

Jay’s 66 give’s him a 2 shot lead over the second place player, Koichiro Kawano. International star Ryo Ishikawa is in a tie for 17th at -2.

On Monday, Jay called his coach, George Pinnell, and told him that he had made a switch to the belly putter and was feeling more confident with his putting stroke. In his first round, Jay had 12 putts on his front nine and 11 on the back side for a total of 23 putts. Apparently the change is paying off!
