Jay Choi Off To A Good Start At the Canon Open

Jay Choi is off to a good start with a -3 under par 69 in the opening round of the Canon Open being played at Totsuka Country Club in Kanagawa, Japan. Yuta Ikeda is the leader at -6 under par.

Jay has been fighting equipment issue’s this year and has been working hard with his supplier Yamaha Golf, to remedy the problem. He has missed several cut’s so this may be an indication that the equipment issue is getting closer to being resolved.

Jay started on the back nine with par’s on 10 and 11 before making a birdie on the 12th hole. Par’s on 13 and 14 were followed by a bogey on 15. Jay, who celebrated his 29th birthday on September 30, went on to par 16, 17 and 18 to close out his front 9.

Three birdie’s in a row on 1, 2 and 3 put Jay at -3 and he finished his round with 6 par’s and shooting a 33 on his back side (front 9) for a final 69. Jay used his short game skill’s to get up and down 7 time’s in 8 attempt’s needing only 25 putt’s in his round. The talented, Wildomar, CA, native had 11, one putt’s that highlighted the importance of a sound short game.
