Preview: Rolex Tournament of Champions

The field
In 2014, the Rolex Tournament of Champions travels to Richland Country Club in Nashville, Tennessee, for the first time, June 23-27. In the tournament’s 37-year history, many prominent names have sat atop the leaderboard after four rounds, including Phil Mickelson, Grace Park and Webb Simpson. The juniors in this fiercely competitive field look to add their names to that list.
The 132-player field is comprised of an impressive 54 Rolex Junior All-Americans, 104 AJGA champions, with 24 champions from 2014, and 93 college commits. Also included are 11 of the top 20 boys and 10 of the top 20 girls from the Polo Golf Rankings.
College rivalry in the making
The 2013 runner-up Adam Wood looks to even the score with 2013 champion Benjamin Griffin. Last year, Wood led Griffin by one stroke through two rounds, until Griffin shot a 2-under-par 68 third round and took the lead. With Griffin up by one stroke entering the final round, the two both carded 5-under-par 65.The Rolex Tournament of Champions will not be the last time the two face off head-to-head. Griffin, a Chapel Hill, North Carolina, native, will play collegiately at his hometown school, the University of North Carolina, while Wood of Zionsville, Indiana, will play for cross-state ACC rival Duke beginning this fall.

Seeking a Rolex sweep
Elizabeth Wang of San Marino, California, comes off a victory at the Rolex Girls Junior Championship and seeks to become the third girl to win both the Rolex Girls Junior Championship and the Rolex Tournament of Champions in the same year, a feat only accomplished by Alison Lee in 2013 and Kellee Booth in 1993.
