Rose Zhang always felt destined to be a great Solheim Cup player. Her amateur career foreshadowed the possibility.

She won the U.S. Women’s Amateur, U.S. Girls’ Junior, two NCAA individual championships, was part of Stanford’s 2023 NCAA team win and two victorious Curtis Cup teams. In match play and team environments, she’s thrived. After turning pro in 2023, she won her first start.

Solheim Cup success, however, didn’t happen right away. Zhang played in her first last year. A new pro, she lost two matches and halved one. Though not the performance she would’ve wanted, she made up for it this week at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club by going undefeated in the four matches she played. She joins Dottie Pepper (1998) and Morgan Pressel (2011) as the only U.S. players to ever score 4 points in a Solheim Cup. Zhang bested Pepper and Pressel’s record, however, by never having a match get to the 17th hole. That’s a Solheim Cup record.

First, she paired with Lauren Coughlin in Friday foursomes and defeated Celine Boutier and Albane Valenzuela, 3 and 2. That afternoon, she paired with Andrea Lee in a fourball match against Linn Grant and Charley Hull to win, 5 and 4. On Saturday, Zhang played with Lee again, this time in a four-ball match against Linn Grant and Celine Boutier; they won 6 and 4. For her final match, Zhang played singles against European stalwart Carlota Ciganda. Yet again, Zhang won 6 and 4, putting another crucial point on the board bearly for the U.S.

It was so incredible,” Zhang said after her final match. “I just feel like the Solheim Cup reignited my passion for the game, and it was so fun to see so many people out here supporting. My teammates have been incredible. We’ve been having so much fun, not only off the golf course but even on it. It’s just been an incredible ride.”

Zhang had finished her singles match and was out cheering as Lilia Vu scored the final half-point the Americans needed to win the Solheim Cup for the first time since 2017. Zhang’s performance was critical for the U.S. in Virginia, and it feels like she’ll be critical for her country for many more years to come.
